Caring For Your Tile Floors
Once your beautiful new tile floor is installed, protect your investment with a few easy steps to keep it looking like new.
Remove Dirt Daily
Sweep, vacuum, or dust mop daily to remove loose dirt or grit from the surface. Use only a soft bristle broom or vacuum without the beater bar. For dust mopping, use only an untreated electrostatic dust mop, such as Swiffer. This will help prevent wear and scratches on the finish.
Damp Mop Weekly
When further cleaning is needed, use a mop with warm water and a gentle cleaner. Steam cleaners also work well to loosen tough dirt without harmful chemicals. Ensure that area is rinsed clean, as some cleaners can leave a residue.
Quickly Remove Spills
Blot up liquids immediately with a clean dry cloth. To prevent stains, do not allow spills to remain on the floor for an extended period of time.
Sealers are easy to apply and prevent spills from absorbing into the grout surface. After tile is installed and fully cured, apply the sealer evenly by mopping backwards toward the room opening. Allow the sealer to completely dry before walking or placing furniture on it.
Use protectors under furniture
Add felt floor protectors on the legs or corners of furniture, heavy objects or equipment to prevent scratching or chipping tiles. This is especially needed for chairs or stools that are moved around a lot.
Use floor mats or rugs near entrances
Mats act as a barrier between the floor and the dirt and moisture you are tracking in from outside. These should be cleaned or dried out often to continue trapping dirt from shoes.
